The 2nd Graders studied symmetry and African Tribal Masks. They were asked to create a symmetrical background then add the facial features that were also symmetrical. The results were awesome.
The 2nd Graders continued their unit on portraiture. For this project, they learned about symbolism and the how symbols can help create who they are. They used magazines to find things that represented them and cut them out to represent each facial feature.
On Thursday, the 2nd Graders learned about Andy Warhol and Pop Art. They were introduced to his portraits (Marilyn Monroe) and how he duplicated those portraits with different colors. For their project, they looked into a mirror, drew themselves, then repeated it three more times, and then added different color to each portrait.
